SHIFT HAPPENS: Using the Arts to Facilitate Learning

The arts take us on an adventure in creative expression from the realm of analytical thinking into the realm of unknown territory and heightened awareness.

Join Val Quintera as she explores with us how working and playing artfully enhances our sense of belonging, levels the playing field, and sparks inquiry, dialog and story telling.

This interactive session will provide novel ways of articulating traditional paradigms through the use of collage, acrostics and simple drawing and discuss how trainers can use or modify these activities.

• Create a mural that tells the story of an organization
• Improve creative collaborative skills
• Develop visual thinking skills
• Use visuals to clarify goals
• Build rapport and a positive environment in a group .

No special artistic talent is required!

Valerina Quintana has worked at the University of Arizona for 20 years, primarily in Human Resources. In addition to implementing a career and leadership development program for 700 UA employees, she has conducted various workshops for UA staff and the Tucson community.

As a result of receiving her certification in the expressive arts, Valerina utilizes the arts in many areas of her life. She recently published her first book of poetry, Full Moon Rising.

 Membership Star

Congratulations to ASTD - Greater Tucson Chapter and all of its Members.  We are proud to announce that we have been awarded the Chapter Membership STAR for 2009 from National ASTD. The STAR status is earned when a chapter reaches a joint national and chapter membership level between 35% and 49% by December 31, 2009.  The Greater Tucson Chapter has already achieved a joint membership rate of 47%.

This outstanding achievement exceeds the 30% Chapter Operating Requirement (CORE).  It also demonstrates the chapter’s commitment to engaging and informing members about the benefits of both ASTD national and the local chapter. Thank you to all our members who made this important distinction possible.

Whether you’re a member or not, ASTD donates funds to our chapter if you use our chapter ChIP code #CH8088 when ordering materials or attending conferences. Don’t forget to register with our ChIP code!
